Introduction

Come and be part of the SESA Technical Official Team!

Technical Official Development Pathway

Technical officials are volunteers who are members of the area’s swimming clubs. Most officials are parents who have /or have had children in our sport who assist with local club nights and officiating at local meets.

Our officials have a development pathway from timekeeping at local club nights to officiating at the Olympic Games and FINA championships. South Eastern Swimming Association can organise training for swim clubs and their members throughout the year or members can complete online training and ask the ATSC for an appointment to apply the skills at a meet and gain experience leading to a competency-based practical assessment.  The following courses are available –

  • General Principles of Swimming
  • Starter
  • Check Starter
  • Marshall
  • Timekeeper
  • Chief Timekeeper
  • Inspector of Turns
  • Judge of Strokes
  • Recorder
  • Referee

For more information please get in touch with our SESA Area Technical Coordinator:

Norbert Sernig (e: technical@southeasternswimming.com.au)

To undertake online training go to the Swimming NSW website.  SwimmingNSW technical training courses

Frequently asked.

Where do I go to start training online to be a Technical Official?

Go to the SWNSW training site https://nswtraining.swimming.org.au/ to begin your online modules.

How does the online accreditation process work?

Once individuals have successfully completed the training (thoery) they will receive a certificate to print out and take to their next Meet so they can be assessed (practical) to become fully accredited.

To view the courses as they become available please visit the Swimming NSW training page here: https://nswtraining.swimming.org.au/

An email notification will be sent to you when you pass any of the modules. Our SESA Area Technical Coordinator will be able to follow up with you to organise assessments or answer any questions.

Why do I need to do the General Principles Introductory Course first?

We want you to understand how the National Officiating Accreditation program works. It’s super helpful, so you’ll need to complete this course before you can move on.

Do I need to do a practical assessment?

Yes. The SNSW online modules only give you the theory. Once you’ve finished the module and feel confident on pool deck, get in touch with our Area Technical Convenor to organise your practical assessment. You’ll need to bring your Certificate of Completion from the online module to your practical assessment to prove you’ve done it.

In addition to traditional paper methods, you now also have the option to request a practical assessment through our technical official online training site. After you complete the theory portion of your accreditation online at nswtraining.swimming.org.au, you can head to the page below, fill out the online form, and a request for your practical assessment will be sent directly to your Area Technical Coordinator for arrangement: https://nswtraining.swimming.org.au/assessment/.
